Elder Pack's Letter 5/21/12

Hello family and friends!!!!

I hope that everyone is great and having a great time were ever they be at this moment in time.
We had a good week.  We are working with a young adult named Fabian, and well he is slowly progressing but that is better than not progressing.  The week before we had to think about if we were going to keep teaching him because he wasn’t progressing at all.  He wasn’t reading and not praying very much…also missed church on Sunday.  We decided to teach him, and well, teach him about the importance of reading constantly.  We showed him a few short Mormon messages that really helped him.  He has a hard time seeing that the Lord is answering his prayers as to if the church is true or not. We know that the Lord has answered him a few times.  He told us when he felt great in church and felt a change when he started talking to us.  So, when we came back with him on Saturday we wanted first to know if he had done his homework.  He was happy to tell us yes, but most of all he was happy because he felt that the Lord was very proud of him.  You could see it in his face that due to his work he was even happier and was even more open with us than usual.  It was great!!!   But, when his godfather asked him "If that’s how you feel then which day are you getting baptized hahahahaha," he got defensive and said "Wo wo step by step" haha it was great.  I know that he will be getting baptized in the next few weeks. He came back from his assigned homework and told us things that usually people with more time in the church understand.

I’m glad that I have this time in my life to serve the Lord and that I can do His will.  When my friends get the chance to go on the mission, I will tell them, do it.  It will be the best time of your lives!!!!.

We have plenty of work ahead of us and well I’m happy to offer my body as a tool in the hand of my God.

Hope that everyone has a great week love you all,
LOVE ELDER PACK

Hello people!!!!

I’m happy that this last week I was able to talk to my family, but most of all, my mommy!!! So the conversation didn’t really have direction at times, and it was funny to hear all the random comments, but that would be my family!!!!  Yes, there is no other like it in the world hahahah.

So this week went by very quickly and the truth is I don’t remember much, but I know it went well.  I realized that I don’t know how to speak English anymore hahah.  It was very interesting to talk and have no one understand me.  I think my companion understood me more than my family to tell you the truth.  Maybe it’s because he speaks broken English with the form of speaking Spanish or something.  I hope that all understood what was going on and understood what I was saying.  If not, I’m sorry but nothing can be changed now haha.
So I hope that everyone will have a great week, and that everyone had a great Mother’s day!!!

Love,
ELDER PACK

Tribute to Mothers - Sister Pack

So this week I am doing a shout out to moms! I love my mom!  She is rocking, and I love all moms in the world whether they have children as of right now or in the future.  We are chosen spirits of god to hold a sacred calling, and I just wanted to talk about how grateful God truly loves and trusts us.

This last week we have been talking to a lot of people about motherhood and the best way to raise their children.  They all seem to be puzzled about how to raise their kids well!  It made me so sad! I am grateful I KNOW that God loves us enough to give us instruction today as He did in the times of old. I am grateful that He saw it important enough to give us (people who don’t have kids) a way to learn how to refine ourselves to be the best mother and daughter of God we can be. Here is a great scripture I found. Psalm 45:10-17:

 10 Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house;
11 So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.
12 And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.
13 The king’s daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.
14 She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.
15 With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king’s palace.
16 Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.
17 I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.

I hope everyone enjoyed their Mother’s day!

Family Baptism - Elder Pack

Hello Family and Friends!!!

How are we today?? I hope fantastic!  How was our week??  Another which I hope the answer is fantastic!
So we did have the baptisms!!!! How fantastic right??  The entire family was baptized that means 5!!  I’m glad that I had the opportunity to help them into the truth.  The baptism went well, and I feel that they had a very spiritual experience because we baptized with another ward.  In total 7 people were baptized.  We had a special musical number, and the baptisms went perfect…no re-dos!! Haha  I say this because the baptism of Xiomara was done 3 times and the children that were baptized also were baptized 2 times not for a limb that didn’t stay down, it was because the person that baptized them was wearing black sandals.  They all got baptized in the end.

We had a good week to tell you the truth.  One sister came back from the mission a little early, but they told me it was due to medical problems.

Mom the answer to your question concerning my Spanish is... well I don’t have as many problems as I did the first few days of my mission, but I don’t speak like an native speaker yet.  I need a lot more practice before I get home!!!!

Hope to talk to you all this Mother’s day.  See you all later and love you all

It´s winter! And it's HOT AGAIN! - Sister Pack

HOLA familia!

How is everyone doing there in the heat?  Don´t worry, I am right there with you!  So some sad news of this week….our escogido (the one that was ready for baptism) moved into the Elders area!  We had worked so hard to get her to the point but then they just up and moved. It would be ok if we could actually find her but the elders have had a really hard time... we keep praying for her and fasting hoping that they would find her.  Hopefully I will have more to say next week on that subject!  But everything is great here in Resistencia. We have some progressing investigators who have fechas for the beginning of June.  We are hoping that we see progress in them and they see the importance of the baptism as we try hard to teach them.

So something crazy happened. I started reading our heritage (the history of the church) which is a miracle because I absolutely hated the church history after dad made us read that Mormon Batallion book my junior year of high school.  Sorry dad, but summer plus waking us up at 6 in the morning to read that dang book was not my favorite moments lol.  Anyways since then I have never been interested in understanding more about church history, but this week during studies I started to read it and I love it. I am starting to realize how amazing those Pioneers were and how much more faith they have than me. I caught myself daydreaming about having people race to the river to be baptized when I realized I CAN…I just need to give it my all. Did you know the most successful missionary didn´t even have shoes to his name or a suit!? I thought that was absolutely nuts but it helped me realized there is so many more important things in this life then money and the comfort of home. It was all about the gospel for them.  That is what I want all of it to be about for me….the gospel and these people. I hope I can successfully do that by the end of my mission. It´s just a challenge because I hold on to my human self. BUT I know the lord is there for me and for that I am grateful.  Well, love you all! and talk to you on Sunday!

P.S.  If possible, I would love to talk to Tyler! I REALLY REALLY want to talk to Tyler.

Listening to the Spirit - Sister Pack

Hola!

This week was awesome.  I had exchanges with a Hermana that came into the mission with me.  We had tons and tons of fun!  Her name is Hermana Sweet.  She is rocking and a tall blonde! I always get the blonde girls. lol.  Anyways, I learned so much from our time together.  We were teaching so well together because we were following predicad mi evangelio and the things that our mission president has given us. It was amazing to feel the spirit flow the way it did through our lessons. It was way amazing because we had a lesson where Hermana Sweet felt it to be important to promise a lady who couldn’t go to church (because of a job) that she would make double her salary by Saturday.  When it came out of her mouth the spirit filled the area.  She accepted the challenge to go to church and put her faith to the test. Hermana Sweet called a few days later to tell me that she had made triple the money and someone had left clothes for her children on the doorstep.  It was the most amazing thing I have watched on my mission thus far. I know this is the Lord’s work, and I know I am just an instrument in his hand.

We also had another awesome experience with another man that we passed in the street.  We got a strong feeling to talk to him, but he was getting on the bus on the other side of the street! Hermana Parker was bummed out, but with my quick thinking I flagged down the bus and we got on. We then waited a few minutes so it wasn’t awkward and then started talking to him.  He asked us to come to his home and that the elders had taught him before and he liked what they said!  We got his information really fast because we realized that we had gone out of our area and got dropped off at a Cathedral hall... haha that was hilarious with all the Catholics staring at us.  We started walking back, content in our hearts that we had followed the prompting of the Lord.

We are excited to start working with this man! I am grateful for the Holy Ghost and the ability I have to have him as a companion.  Well, got to go back to work!

Love you guys,
Hermana Pack

P.S.  The pictures are kinda fun!!

Hermana Parker and I made brownies for the APs (that’s what you get when you are sisters and the only ones with an oven. lol)

This little girl fell into my arms and it absolutely melted my heart!

This is Hermana Sweet and I with pancakes.  Can you see mickey and frosty the snow man!?

This pic explains itself!!!  HA HA!!
